Blanchet Acknowledges Losses, Calls for Collaboration with Parliament
Bloc Quebecois leader Yves-François Blanchet acknowledges HIS party’s reduced seat count while applauding the party’s resilience in a difficult context. He blames this result on president Trump’s tariff war and his statements about making Canada the 51st State, and on the Liberal Party’s strategy of what he considers to be playing on Canadians’ fears. While remaining discreet in the face of criticism from the PQ, he reaches out to the other parties to defend Quebec in trade negotiations. Having been re-elected in the riding of Belœil-Chambly, Mr. Blanchet says that he will continue his mandate focused on the protection of the French language, secularism, and Quebec’s capacity for hosting newcomers.
